Education is one of the crucial components that are needed to support the development of an advanced technology like Satellite Navigation and related applications. This is especially true in the Timing field. To provide an answer to this issue a Master on Navigation and related Applications in the English language has been established in Torino by a joint initiative of the Politecnico di Torino and the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella, a research and technology member of the Fondazione Torino Wireless. The 4th edition of the Master is presently running with the attendance of about twenty 2nd level graduates coming from all over the world.
INRIM and UN-OOSA (Office for outer Space Affair of the United Nations) cooperate in the Master’s activities and programs. The UN has added the Master to their Educational Program for the developing and emerging countries. The Master covers the Satellite Navigation subject in general and specifically covers the Galileo System, the Galileo receiver technologies, the location and navigation applications and services, and the timing subject. The timing curriculum has been prepared with special attention with the objective to train highly skilled staff to be employed during the experiments and operations of the PTF.
Experts from ESA, GSA and primary aerospace industries provide seminars on specific Galileo topics thus contributing to create awareness and disseminating knowledge. The Piedmont and Turin Galileo Program Committee are committed to support and develop this strategic educational activity. For more information: http://didattica.polito.it/master/navigation/
