| The Galileo Time in Piedmont |
|
The Piedmont and Turin local administrations (Piedmont Region, Torino Province, City Council and Chamber of Commerce) established the Comitato Promotore Programma Galileo (Galileo Promoting Committee) on February 2003 with the aim of setting a Galileo Regional Initiative in the Piedmont and Torino area, to exploit the local scientific and industrial expertise in Satellite Navigation. The scientific bodies already operating are the Politecnico of Torino and its partner Istituto Superiore Mario Boella, an ICT Research Center, both active in the PNT receiver technology, the INRiM – Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (ex IEN Galileo Ferraris), a worldwide recognised Time and Frequency metrology centre, moreover the Torino area is an important industrial district with several experienced Aerospace industries, both SMEs and Large Enterprises. Time, the core competence of Satellite Navigation Systems, leverages the presence in Torino of INRiM, Thales Alenia Space – Italia and SEPA, that have already consolidated a significant competence and know-how on the Galileo Time having worked on the Experimental Precision Timing Station (E-PTS) development and operation, since the beginning of the Galileo System Test Bed V1. Based on the above considerations the Comitato Promotore Programma Galileo identified the PTF project acquisition as a strategic objective for the consolidation of the Piedmont scientific and industrial competencies on the Galileo Time and for the future development in the Galileo Timing field as well as a basis for future national and international programs in the Timing area.
Consorzio Torino TimeThe Consorzio Torino Time (CTT) has been established on April 2nd 2004 on initiative of the Comitato Promotore Programma Galileo (funded in Turin on February 2003 by Public Regional Entities) with the aim to bid for the Galileo PTF Element and related timing Projects. The CTT members “consorziati” are: The Torino geography focus of the CTT is also associated with an ‘open door’ policy and strategy toward Europe and the rest of the world.. Moreover, a key advantage of the CTT is the mix of private and public members where the private members play the industrial role, Politecnico of Torino and INRiM play the scientific and the educational role, while Fondazione Torino Wireless and Finpiemonte act as institutional members.
